Plans / Bandwidth cost

Bandwidth and traffic costs, explained

How much outbound traffic your hosting includes, and which plans give you the most headroom before you pay overage fees.

Metered vs unmetered

Budget VPS hosts usually include a large traffic allowance, tens of terabytes a month, or advertise unmetered bandwidth on a shared port. Hyperscale clouds work differently: compute is cheap to start, but every gigabyte leaving the network is billed, and a busy media site can run up a surprising egress bill. If you serve large files or lots of images, included bandwidth matters as much as CPU.

How to keep traffic costs down

  • Put a CDN in front of static assets. Cloudflare and similar edges absorb most of the traffic for free or cheap.
  • Prefer hosts with generous included transfer if your workload is bandwidth-heavy.
  • Watch egress pricing on hyperscalers; object storage with no egress fees can pay for itself.
